Who is Jesus?
When you ask the question who is Jesus you can get many different answers. Some will say he was a moral man who did good deeds, some will say he is a philosopher, some say he’s a prophet. These are all good answers, but none speak to the truth of who Jesus is.
Jesus asked His own followers this question as they traveled and this is what they said, “Some say John the Baptist; others Say Elijah, and still others, one of the prophets.”
That’s what others said, but it doesn’t matter who Jesus is to others it matters who He is to you. Peter answered the question saying You are Gods Son, the promised savior.
Why do we need a savior?
You may wonder why we need a savior. God had a plan for mankind from the beginning but the devil lied to Eve about Gods love for her and she decided to leave Gods good plan and follow the enemy away from Gods love. For that reason Jesus came to restore us to that place of love in God.
Sin is not about doing bad things, sin is simply being separated from God, that separation from God produces actions that are not good. Being “saved” as Christians call it is not about checking off a moral list it is about knowing the God who created us in His image and has a good plan for each one of us.
Romans 5:8 says, God showed us His love by sending Jesus to die for us while we were still sinners. This means we don’t have to “get our lives together” or be good to come to God. By coming to Jesus we get our lives together and He helps us live the good plan God has for us.
Romans 6:23 tells us that sin brings forth death (this is not just physical death, but separation from God for eternity). But the gift of God is eternal life (reconciliation to God and His plan) in Christ Jesus. God has a gift for us, Himself.
Salvation is not about religious rules it’s about a relationship with God.
Romans 10:9 and 10 tells us that if we say with our mouth and believe in our heart that God raised Jesus from the dead we will be saved. Being a part of Gods family really is that simple, but that’s not all there is.
When you get saved you become part of the family and when you’re a part of a family there are benefits. God has a good plan for you that comes with salvation.
What is Salvation?
In John 10:10 Jesus said “the thief (the devil) comes only in order to steal, kill, and destroy. I came that you may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).
What does life mean? Psalm 103:3-5 tells us. I like how the Amplified Bible puts it, “Who forgives [everyone of all] your iniquities (sin), Who heals [each one of all your diseases, Who redeems your life from the pit and corruption, Who dignifies and beautifies, and crowns you with loving-kindness and tender mercy; Who satisfies your mouth [your necessity and desire at your personal age and situation] with good so that your youth, renewed, is like the eagle’s [strong, overcoming, soaring].”
That sounds like a fantastic deal! This is what Adam and Eve had, this is what the devil had before he rejected his creator. Because he rejected, he wanted Adam and Eve to reject Him too. Jesus came to give us a way back to our creator and Father. If you want to go back to your Father, your creator and His good plan for your life, let’s do what Romans said, let’s confess Jesus.
If you would like to do that say the following out loud:
“Lord Jesus, I want to have life. I know that I have sinned. I need Your forgiveness and pardon. I believe that You died and rose again for my sins. I now accept You as my personal Savior. I will forsake my sinful life. I know that Your grace and power will enable me to live for You. Thank You, Jesus, for saving me and for giving me a new life.”
I know Jesus, now what?
2 Corinthians 5:17 tells us that anyone who is in Christ is a new creation. Now that you have received Gods gift of salvation you have a new life, the life described in Psalm 103:3-5.
As a new Christian I encourage you to get a Bible if you don’t have one and begin reading the book of James that is found in the New Testament. This book will help you know how to live the good life God has planned for you. When you finish James you might like reading another New Testament book called Ephesians, this book talks about what it means to be a new creation and like James, how to live our new life.
If you don’t have a Bible you might want to start with the New Living Translation because the language and structure is easier to follow.
Jesus told his followers He would send them the Holy Spirit to help teach them. When you read the Bible ask Holy Spirit to help you understand what the Bible says and help you to live the life God has for you.
After you finished reading those two books you may find it helpful to read through the rest of the New Testament before reading the Old Testament.
Another helpful thing to do is find a good Church in your area. If you don’t know of a Church you can find a partner church with Kenneth Copeland Ministries here.
I am excited about your new life and Christ and would love to hear about it if you would like to send me a message.
On the recommended reading page you will find books that can help you understand the Bible and to live the life God has for you. I encourage you to check out that page. And if you like you can subscribe to the blog and get posts by email.
Again, I am excited for your new life in Christ and pray as you read the Bible, pray, go to Church, and find other Christians to do life with that you will be happy in all the goodness of God.
