Evening Devotion: Diligent

Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
II Timothy 2:15 NKJV

Diligent: Steadily applied; prosecuted with care and constant effort; careful; assiduous; as, make diligent search. (Webster’s 1828 Dictionary).

If we are going to be diligent in the Word we must make time in the Word a daily priority. As we grow in our understanding we should be developing a longer and more in depth time of study. As we diligently endeavor to understand the truth we will walk in it more closely.

The way of the diligent is a narrow way according to Matthew chapter seven. 2 Peter 1:5-11 NKJV “But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins. Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble; for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”

Grow in diligence daily. Read the Word, rightly divide it, and conform your life to it.
