“Now may the Lord of peace Himself continually grant you peace in every circumstance. The Lord be with you all!”
2 Thessalonians 3:16 NASB1995
Our circumstances can change in a moment. You’ve probably heard someone say, considering the circumstances I’m doing pretty good. No matter what our circumstances may be we can always rest in the peace of the Lord.
Jesus told His disciples just before He went to the cross that He was leaving His peace with them. Not a peace that comes from the world but His peace. Most people are tossed about by circumstances, we allow our emotions to be driven by our situations but being in Christ we have a more sure foundation than what we’re going through.
We often quote Philippians 4:13 but lets look at it in context. Philippians 4:11-13 NASB1995 “Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am. I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need. I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.”
The verse we’ve used to encourage athletes and tell kids they can accomplish anything has a completely different meaning than what most Christians give it. Paul was telling the Philippians that he had learned to get along in any circumstance through Christ’s ability in him. That gives the famous verse an entirely different context.
Take it from Paul, take the example from numerous stories in the Bible, no matter the circumstances trust God. When things are good and when things are bad, put your trust in Him and always find something to be thankful for.
