“And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.”
Acts 2:42 NKJV

If there is a verse that can sum up the activity of the Church it is Acts 2:42. Doctrine, fellowship, communion, and prayer.

To continue steadfastly means to hold earnestly, to look fixedly, and to be established.

The early Christians, the first century church knew what they were about, the great commission. They knew why they gathered; to be taught the Scriptures, to fellowship, to partake in communion together and to pray.

We often talk about returning to the book of Acts, this is where it starts. We must emphasize sound doctrine again, fellowship, share in communion and pray together. We often hear that prayer meetings are the least attended services, that should not be so.

Take time this afternoon to think about these four areas and how your local church emphasizes them. Look at your structure and emphasis compared to what Acts 2:42 says. Are we the church according to Scripture?
