Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.”
John 6:29 NKJV
Sometimes we can think believing is simply to believe, yet the demons believe and tremble. So is there “more to belief” than just acknowledging Jesus. Yes, acknowledging He is Lord, Romans 10:9.
John the Baptist told those who came to him to produce fruit in keeping with repentance. Jesus said, if you love Me, you will obey Me.
True biblical belief is more than just repeating a prayer, it’s being transformed. It’s going from darkness to light. Going from darkness to light produces a change in behavior. Not change you have to work to produce but a work of the Spirit that conforms you into the image of Christ (Romans 8:29).
Belief is not arbitrary, empty, or a walk down the isle. True belief brings about obedience, not out of legalism but love.
True belief brings about holiness of life and hatred for sin. If you find yourself explaining away sin, you need to examine yourself to see whether you are in faith (2 Corinthians 13:5).
Read First John and notice how belief produces holiness in you.
