The text of the Christmas story is found in the first two chapters of Matthew and Luke. In Matthew the story of the wise men is told and in Luke the story of the shepherds is told. These two stories demonstrate the truth that Jesus came for all classes. There is no partiality with God. That’s why Scripture says there is neither Jew nor Greek, bond nor free in the kingdom of God. Sure we are still our ethnicities, we still have different social classes but in God’s kingdom those things don’t define us.
Lowly shepherds heard the angels and wise men saw a star. God lead them to seek the Christ child and seek him they did. On this ninth day of December take time to read the four chapters of the account of our savior’s birth. Thank him for saving you. If you haven’t already found a Bible reading plan for next year, start looking for one. Many Bibles have reading plans in the back. I know we’re all about our phones but consider reading a physical Bible and keep the distraction of a dinging phone at bay.
Today, think about what it means for the son of God to take on the nature of humanity, to be born as a baby. To be fully God and fully man, to perform miracles, be tempted in all points and to give his life as a ransom for many. That is the beauty of this season, that is good news every day of the year. Amazing grace, how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me.
