Preparations to Walk by Faith

Faith is a topic most of us would say we have a pretty good grasp on. Faith as it concerns our religious beliefs, believing God for something or trusting him though a situation. Last summer the Lord spoke a theme for 2019, “The Spirit of Faith”.

The central theme throughout 2019 will be learning how to become consistent in our faith. Many of us know certain verses on faith or verses to go to about certain things. Our problem lies in not consistently speaking the Word and remaining in faith. It’s easy to get discouraged or distracted and get off our faith.

Hebrews 6:11-12 NLT “Our greatest desire is that what you hope for will come true. (12) Then you will not become spiritually dull and indifferent. Instead you will follow the example of those who are going to inherit God’s promises because of their faith and endurance.”

James 1:5-8 NKJV “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.”

When we become dull and indifferent we cannot be in faith. Faith has to be consistent, tenacious, unrelenting in the face of every attack and unwilling to quit and give up.

Faith doesn’t give room to doubt. Faith doesn’t give room for what if it doesn’t work. It is through faith and endurance, many of us have faith for a few weeks but past that we haven’t built up our endurance. Well how do I build up my endurance? See, this is the part of our faith life that in 2019, we’re going to get serious about. This blog, all year is going to be about teaching us how to endure through trial to push through till we get our breakthrough.

Scripture is clear, a double-minded man is unstable in all his ways. Many of us are double- minded in the way we talk. The Church of today by and large believe it is foolishness to put emphasis on our words. Preachers and believers alike make fun of “name it, claim it” and “grab it, blab it”. There have been plenty who have truly done that with no faith at all or in a spirit of rebellion and mockery. Don’t let that take away from the truth found all throughout your Bible, especially in the book of Proverbs.

Many of us become double-minded because people around us call into question the goodness of God. People will say things like, your son has been on drugs for years, he’s so far gone. God’s hand is not shortened that it cannot save. Maybe someone says, well my grandma had all the faith in the world and she died, what makes you think you’ll get healed. Listen, I’m sorry about their grandma, but I cannot afford to let what didn’t happen for her to dictate my faith in God’s Word.
Because we allow ourselves to become more focused on others and not the Word, we allow our faith to become stolen. The truth is our Faith is hindered by needing to understand everything with our mental reasonings. Scripture constantly talks about not being moved by what we see or what we hear. We are told to cast down arguments, and vain philosophies that exalt themselves above God’s knowledge. And what does God say? His ways are not our ways and His thoughts are not our thoughts.

As hard as it may be for us to acknowledge, all through the gospels Jesus said, your faith has made you whole, or, be it done for you according to your faith. Now it may be someone’s time to go and no prayer will keep the here. Some people probably catch a glimpse of heaven and decide they don’t want to exercise their faith anymore. We don’t know. That’s the bottom line, we don’t know and we need to quit allowing the devil to use circumstances we don’t understand to negate our faith.

Right now, as we are in the middle of January, make a quality decision to walk in faith, to grow in faith no matter what. When we make the decision to walk by faith, the enemy isn’t going to sit down, he’s going to come after us and we need to be ready for that. We ready ourselves by having the Word in us. Get a Bible, learn it, read it, spend more time in the Word this year than you ever have before. Write down in the Bible the revelation God gives you. Listen to teaching this year. I love worship but worship doesn’t destroy unbelief, teaching does. Read books that teach you faith. Determine right now that 2019 is the first year of the rest of your years and all of them will be years of faith. say out loud, I am becoming a Word person. I’m going to read the Word, study the Word, and listen to the Word preached and taught. I’m going to believe the Word, I’m going to do the Word and I am going to receive the promises in the Word.

This is the starting point to the year of The Spirit of Faith. We will be looking at many things this year. The next post will deal with what faith is but in order to be ready to receive that, our hearts must be ready. We must be committed to being serious about not backing down and not being double-minded.

Ask Holy Spirit to show you any area you have been double-minded in and repent. To repent means to change the way you think, we do that by being in the Word.

Take time today to read the parable of the sower in the gospels. Read it slowly, pray through it and ask for understanding. This parable will prepare each of us to walk by faith this year.
